Good leaders understand the importance of managing stakeholder trust but they don't really know how to do so effectively, these academics claim. It's a tall order because stakeholder groups have such different needs. But improved cooperation with suppliers, increased productivity among employees, higher levels of support from investors and greater customer loyalty, according to the authors, will separate the market leading businesses from the also-rans. And CFOs who are able to build trust, especially with investors, can make themselves just about indispensable.
