Bear Stearns Proposes New Model for Valuing Stock Options

Analysts at Bear Stearns proposed an interesting new model this week for U.S. companies trying to find the best way to value and expense employee stock options to comply with new accounting rules, suggesting that companies create a market-traded stock option that would more accurately reflect true value, as opposed to the current models that use (somewhat arbitrary) estimates. "The implication of this ... is that options could be market traded, thus opening up various possibilities that are favorable to investors, companies and employees alike," Bear Stearns said in a note to clients.
