Cox Won't Back Down on Hedge Fund Regulations

In testimony Tuesday before the Senate Banking Committee, SEC Chairman Christopher Cox called for "emergency" steps to reinstate parts of a rule that required hedge funds to register with the SEC, according to CNNMoney.com. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit court threw out the rule last month, and Cox may appeal all the way to the Supreme Court, calling the current regulatory environment for hedge funds "inadequate." Cox testified that hedge funds have grown a whopping 3,000 percent in the last three years, now accounting for as much as 30 percent of the total trading volume on U.S. exchanges.
