PCAOB Supports Top-Down SOX Audits

In response to criticism over sky-high Sarbanes-Oxley compliance costs -- especially the burden they place on smaller companies -- the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has issued new guidelines for auditors, telling them to take a top-down approach instead of drowning in exhaustive detail. According to Ventana Research, this change in tone is likely to further drive down compliance costs for companies with reasonably good controls.
